THIS IS A SMALL VERSION OF THE REVERSE HELIX TROMMELS USED BY MAJOR PLACER MINING COMPANIES. DO NOT CONFUSE IT WITH THE GRAVEL PIT TROMMELS WHICH ARE SCREEN TYPE CLASSIFIERS, NOT ARCHIMEDES MINING TROMMELS. IT CAN EASILY BE CARRIED UP A MOUNTAIN BY ONE PERSON. | |

| MOUNTAIN GOAT TROMMEL OVERVIEW | MOUNTAIN GOAT TROMMEL OVERVIEW We call it the MOUNTAIN GOAT because it can eat almost anything and it is light enough to carry up a mountain! The MOUNTAIN GOAT TROMMEL is a reverse helix trommel built on the same principle as the huge mining trommels used by large mining companies all over the world. It is not to be confused with gravel pit trommels, which are designed to classify gravels. The reverse helix system came from the ARCHIMEDES SCREW PUMP invented over 2000 years ago by the mathematician Archimedes. Someone discovered that the pump brought up GOLD along with the water they were pumping out of the Nile river! The Mountain Goat is very efficient because the spiral riffles inside of the tube turn and bring the “heavies” up to the high end of the tube while allowing the lighter material to flow out of the back of the tube as tailings. This system makes the trommel SELF CLEANING, eliminating the need to break down for cleanup as is necessary in sluice box type equipment. The spiral riffles in the trommel tube are 1/4 inch deep and spaced 3/4 inch apart. It is suggested that the placer material be screened to 1/2 inch minus even though rocks as large as 3/4” will pass through the tube. There is a nugget trap at the low end of the tube which should be checked regularly for nuggets larger than 1/4 inch. The front legs of the trommel are adjustable to increase the pitch The factory setting is so the front legs are about 1” longer than the back legs. Tests have shown very little loss at this setting when a wetting agent is used in the system. The Mountain Goat can be used in a large tray, such a mortar mixing tub, with about 5 gallons of water which is recirculated by a 750 gallon per hour pump. It can also be used directly in a stream. The Mountain Goat Trommel can also be set up to feed directly into a Desert Fox gold panning machine using extended legs and transfer spout. The spout is offered by CAMEL MINING PRODUCTS as an extra cost accessory. This setup makes it a one-man small mining operation. |

Just a side note but I have always
liked the name Angus and wanted to name one of my sons Angus but my wife
didn't care for the name and if your married you will understand why my
wife won (don’t mess with the boss). We did end up naming him Andrew.
Watching Angus operating the Mountain Goat Trommel I was fascinated at
how well it worked and how good it was at removing the gold from the
gravels. I knew that Camel Mining Products have been manufacturing gold
recovering machines for a long time but I didn't realized it had been 37
years until we got talking to Angus. You have to make good products to
last in business that long. Camel Mining never has dropped a new product
on the market before they had spent a lot of time testing and refining
it. Angus said that he had worked with the Mountain Goat for over a year
before he thought it was ready for the public to see. |
